Horolume
Watchmaker examining movement through loupe

● Why Horolume

What a Dedicated Bench
Does Differently

A watchmaking workshop is not the same as a service counter. The difference lies in who is working on the piece, what they write down, and what they tell you before and after.

Six Reasons Collectors Choose Horolume

Specialist Bench Only

No retail sales, no jewellery counter, no side services. Watchmaking is the only work that happens at Horolume. That focus matters at the piece level.

Agreed Scope Before Work Begins

The condition register is signed before any tool touches the movement. Owners know what will and will not be done. There are no surprises on collection.

One Watchmaker Per Piece

Each watch is assigned to a single craftsperson from intake to return. No handoffs, no incomplete notes passed between technicians.

Named Materials Record

Lubricant grades and gasket types are listed by name in every service record. The owner can read exactly what was applied and where.

Timegrapher Data Provided

Timing printouts from intake and completion accompany every piece. Owners who care about rate performance have the data to refer to.

Recall Permitted at Any Stage

Owners may withdraw a piece at any point during work. There is no minimum charge for work already started on archive-grade jobs if the piece is recalled early.

In More Detail

Expertise That Comes From the Calibre Up

Nazri Iskandar trained in Switzerland and has worked with English lever, Swiss ebauche, and Japanese automatic calibres across fifteen years on the Kuala Lumpur bench. The workshop handles unusual and no-longer-supported movements because the watchmaker learns them rather than replacing them wholesale.

Tools and Equipment Selected for the Work

An ultrasonic cleaning bath, a Witschi timegrapher, demagnetising equipment, a pressure tester rated to 30 bar, and movement holders across the common Swiss and Japanese pillar sizes. The equipment list is chosen for what the work actually needs rather than for display.

Owner Contact at Each Stage

Archive-grade and restoration jobs receive fortnightly updates. Owners who want more frequent contact are welcome to call. Questions about calibre specifics or scope are answered directly by the watchmaker, not passed through an intermediary.

Pricing That Reflects Actual Scope

Service prices are fixed for standard calibres: RM 480 for movement service, RM 1,650 for case and dial restoration, RM 4,550 for archive-grade overhaul of complications. Watches with unusual calibres are quoted after assessment. Nothing is added without discussion.

What Sets the Workshop Apart

Bound Service Record

Archive-grade overhaul jobs produce a bound document including component photographs, amplitude and rate logs across a fourteen-day rest cycle, a materials note, and the signed condition register. The owner receives this alongside the watch.

Hand-Fabricated Parts

When a small part is no longer available from suppliers, the watchmaker fabricates it rather than substituting a near-equivalent. This applies to levers, detents, and crown-wheel teeth where the calibre warrants the effort.

Vintage Calibre Knowledge

Horolume works with English and Swiss lever movements from the 1940s through 1980s, including ébauches that mainstream service no longer supports. Clients bringing in inherited or purchased vintage pieces have that experience available.

Finish Scope at Owner's Choice

Restoration owners choose the finish level before work begins, and any step — including dial cleaning or hand relume — can be declined. The condition register records what was agreed and what was not.
