Terms & Conditions
Last Updated: 12 June 2025 · Effective: 12 June 2025
These Terms and Conditions ("Agreement") govern the relationship between Horolume ("we", "us", "our") and any person ("you", "Client") who submits a timepiece for watchmaking service, restoration, or overhaul, or who uses the Horolume website at horolume.cyou. Please read this Agreement before engaging the workshop. Submitting an enquiry or delivering a piece for intake constitutes acceptance of these terms.
Horolume is a watchmaking workshop registered and operating in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our registered address is Lot 12-3, Wisma Cendera, Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur.
1. Definitions
- "Service" means any watchmaking work performed by Horolume, including movement service, case and bracelet restoration, and archive-grade overhaul.
- "Piece" means the timepiece or movement submitted by the Client for Service.
- "Condition Register" means the written document signed at intake recording the agreed scope of work.
- "Workmanship Period" means the twelve-month period following return of a serviced piece during which labour defects are addressed without charge.
- "Agreement" means these Terms and Conditions together with the signed Condition Register for each engagement.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting an enquiry through the website, delivering a piece to the workshop, or signing a Condition Register, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years of age and have legal capacity to enter into this Agreement.
- You are the owner of the Piece or are authorised by the owner to engage Horolume for Service.
- You have read and understood these Terms and Conditions.
3. Service Description
Horolume provides the following services from its Kuala Lumpur workshop:
- Movement Service and Regulation (RM 480): Full strip-down, ultrasonic cleaning, lubrication, and five-position timing adjustment for mechanical and automatic wristwatches.
- Case, Dial and Bracelet Restoration (RM 1,650): Refinishing of case and bracelet, dial cleaning, crystal replacement, and pressure verification.
- Archive-Grade Overhaul for Complicated Timepieces (RM 4,550): Full documentation and overhaul of chronographs, perpetual calendars, repeaters, and other multi-function calibres.
Services are carried out at the workshop in Kuala Lumpur. We do not offer on-site or off-premises service. Unusual calibres are assessed and quoted separately before work begins. We reserve the right to decline a Piece if, in the watchmaker's assessment, the likely outcome would not meet our workmanship standard. If a Piece is declined, it is returned without charge.
4. Intake and Condition Register
Before any work begins, the watchmaker will examine the Piece and prepare a Condition Register. This document records:
- The current rate and amplitude from the timegrapher.
- The agreed scope of work and what is excluded.
- Any pre-existing damage or condition noted at intake.
- The quoted price and estimated bench time.
Work begins only after the Condition Register has been signed by the Client or the Client has confirmed acceptance in writing (including by email). Steps outside the agreed scope will not be taken without further authorisation. The Client may add or remove steps before work begins; changes after work has started are subject to agreement on revised scope and price.
5. Payment Terms
Prices are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Payment is due in full on collection of the Piece. We accept cash, bank transfer, and major debit and credit cards. We do not accept payment through third-party payment links or cryptocurrency.
For archive-grade overhaul work, a deposit of 30% of the quoted price may be requested at intake. The deposit is applied to the final invoice on completion. If a Client withdraws a Piece after work has begun, the deposit is forfeited and a fee for work completed to that point will be agreed. Pieces that are not collected within 90 days of notification of completion may incur a storage fee.
Prices for standard calibres are as published. Unusual calibres are quoted separately and the agreed price is confirmed in the Condition Register.
6. Timelines
Bench time estimates are given in good faith but are not binding commitments. Typical bench times are two to three weeks for movement service, three to five weeks for case and dial restoration, and eight to sixteen weeks for archive-grade overhaul. Delays caused by part availability, additional assessment findings, or circumstances beyond our control will be communicated to the Client as soon as they are known. The Client may recall the Piece at any stage of a service; in this case, work completed to that point will be invoiced at a pro-rated amount agreed between the parties.
7. Workmanship Period
Movement service engagements include a twelve-month workmanship period on the labour performed. If a fault arises that is directly attributable to the bench work carried out by Horolume, the Piece will be assessed and the fault remedied without additional charge. The workmanship period does not cover:
- Damage from impact, water ingress beyond the rated depth, or misuse.
- Normal wear of consumable components including gaskets beyond twelve months.
- Faults arising from conditions not present at the time of service.
- Pieces that have been opened or worked on by another party after collection from Horolume.
Case and bracelet restoration and archive-grade overhaul do not carry a separate workmanship period beyond the standard legal rights afforded by Malaysian consumer protection legislation.
8. Client Responsibilities
The Client is responsible for:
- Providing accurate information about the Piece, including known service history and any prior repairs.
- Informing Horolume if the Piece has any known pre-existing damage or condition not apparent on visual inspection.
- Collecting the Piece within a reasonable period following notification of completion.
- Providing updated contact information if it changes during the service period.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on the Horolume website, including text, photographs, and design elements, is the property of Horolume or its content suppliers. You may not reproduce, republish, or distribute website content without written permission. Photographs and documentation produced as part of an archive-grade service record are provided to the Client for their personal records; they may not be used for commercial purposes without consent.
10. Disclaimers
Watchmaking services are carried out with reasonable skill and care based on the condition of the Piece at intake. We do not make representations about the future performance, value, or longevity of any timepiece. Results depend in part on the age, condition, and calibre of the Piece. Where a calibre has inherent limitations — such as a movement that cannot achieve modern accuracy standards — these are noted at intake.
The website is provided for information purposes. Content about calibres, lubricants, and workshop processes is descriptive and does not constitute professional advice for any specific timepiece.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, Horolume's liability in connection with any Service is limited to the price paid for that Service. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special losses, including loss of value or sentimental value associated with a timepiece. Nothing in this Agreement excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Pieces are handled with the care their value warrants. Horolume maintains appropriate insurance covering pieces in its custody at workshop value. Clients with pieces of unusual or significant value are advised to declare this at intake so that appropriate precautions can be discussed.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Horolume from any claims, losses, or damages arising from your provision of inaccurate information about a Piece, your failure to hold proper title to the Piece, or your breach of this Agreement.
13. Termination
Either party may terminate a service engagement before work begins without penalty. After work has begun, termination by the Client results in an invoice for work completed to that point. Horolume may decline to continue work on a Piece if unforeseen circumstances make completion to the required standard impossible; in this case, the Piece is returned and any deposit is refunded less reasonable costs incurred.
14. Dispute Resolution
This Agreement is governed by the laws of Malaysia. In the event of a dispute, the parties agree to attempt informal resolution first by contacting [email protected]. If informal resolution is not achieved within 30 days, disputes shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the courts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Clients also have recourse to the Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia (Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna Malaysia) for consumer disputes within its statutory jurisdiction.
15. General Provisions
- Entire Agreement: This Agreement and the signed Condition Register constitute the entire agreement for each service engagement and supersede all prior discussions.
- Severability: If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
- Waiver: Failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
- Assignment: Horolume may not assign its obligations under this Agreement without the Client's consent.
- Notices: Formal notices should be addressed to [email protected] or to the workshop address. Email acknowledgement constitutes receipt.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version in effect at the time of a service engagement's Condition Register being signed governs that engagement. Updated terms are posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the website or submission of new service enquiries after a posted update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
